Revolut Business Account Review UK: Fees, FX & Verdict

Revolut Business is at its best when money regularly crosses borders. If you get paid in dollars, pay suppliers in euros or want tight control over staff cards, it can be genuinely useful. If your business is entirely UK-based, the £10 monthly starting price needs more justification.

Who Revolut Business makes sense for

Think international agencies, ecommerce companies, software firms, importers and small companies with overseas suppliers or contractors. The more currencies your business touches, the easier it is to justify.

Is Revolut Business a real bank in the UK?

Yes. This is one of the biggest changes since older Revolut Business reviews were written.

Revolut Bank UK Ltd became a fully authorised UK bank in March 2026. It is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by both the PRA and the Financial Conduct Authority.

For eligible businesses, deposits held with Revolut Bank UK Ltd are now protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000, subject to FSCS eligibility rules.

An interesting bit of Revolut history

Revolut launched in 2015 as a money app built around cheaper currency exchange. Eleven years later, it became a fully authorised UK bank. That journey explains why international payments are still the part of Revolut Business that feels most distinctive.

If you are comparing the wider market, see our business bank accounts guide and guide to opening a business account.

Who can open Revolut Business?

Revolut Business is aimed at incorporated and registered business entities such as limited companies and partnerships.

UK sole traders and freelancers are not currently supported by Revolut Business. Revolut directs smaller unincorporated businesses towards Revolut Pro instead.

That is an important distinction. If you are self-employed and not incorporated, do not spend half an hour comparing Revolut Business plans only to discover the legal structure is not accepted.

Sole traders should compare our free business bank accounts, Tide Business Account review, ANNA review and Monzo Business review.

Revolut Business plans and pricing

The current UK legal fee schedule lists four plans: Basic, Grow, Scale and Enterprise.

Plan Current price UK domestic payments International payments FX allowance Best for
Basic £10/month 10 free, then 20p each £5 each £1,000/month Small UK company testing Revolut or making light international use
Grow £35/month or £360/year 100 free, then 20p each 5 free, then £5 each £15,000/month Growing businesses paying overseas suppliers or exchanging currency regularly
Scale £125/month or £1,080/year 1,000 free, then 20p each 25 free, then £5 each £60,000/month Established international companies with meaningful payment volume
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Custom Larger companies needing negotiated allowances and account management

Revolut-to-Revolut transfers do not attract the normal transfer fee on these plans.

Cash withdrawals are less attractive. Revolut currently charges a 2% ATM withdrawal fee across Business plans, so this is not the account we would choose for a business that regularly handles cash.

Basic vs Grow: when does paying £35 a month make sense?

This is where Revolut gets more interesting.

Basic includes only £1,000 of monthly currency exchange within the plan allowance. Grow includes £15,000.

Once you exceed your monthly allowance, Revolut currently adds 0.6% to the amount exchanged over the allowance. Exchanges outside standard FX market hours also attract a 1% fee.

Imagine a small agency converts £10,000 into euros every month to pay contractors.

  • On Basic, £1,000 is within the allowance and £9,000 is above it.
  • 0.6% of £9,000 is £54 in excess FX fees.
  • Grow costs £25 more per month than Basic.
  • Grow’s £15,000 FX allowance covers the whole £10,000 in this simplified example.

So on currency exchange alone, Grow could already be around £29 better off that month before counting its extra domestic and international transfer allowances.

This is why “£10 a month” is not the whole Revolut pricing story

If your business rarely exchanges currencies, Basic may be enough. If you move £10,000 or £20,000 between currencies every month, the plan allowance can matter more than the monthly subscription.

How good is Revolut Business for international payments?

This is the main reason we would put Revolut on a shortlist.

Revolut Business supports holding and exchanging 25+ currencies. That means a UK business can keep GBP, EUR, USD and many other currencies in the same overall account environment rather than converting everything immediately.

For an agency billing a US client in dollars and paying a European contractor in euros, that can remove a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth conversion.

The caveat is the allowance. Revolut uses the interbank exchange rate, but once you exceed the plan’s monthly FX allowance a 0.6% fee applies. Exchanges outside standard FX market hours currently incur an additional 1% fee.

The right question is therefore not “does Revolut offer good exchange rates?” It is “how much do we exchange each month, and which plan allowance actually covers us?”

Domestic and international transfer costs

Basic includes 10 UK domestic payments each month, Grow 100 and Scale 1,000. Transfers above those allowances cost 20p each.

International transfers are more expensive:

  • Basic: £5 per international payment.
  • Grow: 5 included each month, then £5 each.
  • Scale: 25 included each month, then £5 each.

Guaranteed SWIFT transfers using OUR charging are currently £20 each.

Again, count what the business actually does. A company sending two overseas supplier payments a month has a very different Revolut cost from one sending 40.

Team cards and spending controls

Revolut is particularly good when several people need to spend company money.

Business owners can issue physical and virtual cards, set permissions and control team spending from the app or web platform.

This can be much cleaner than one company card being passed around the office and somebody asking on Friday afternoon, “Who spent £436 at Adobe?”

The first plastic card for each authorised person is included under the current plan structure, although delivery fees can apply. Grow includes one Metal card for the business and Scale includes two.

Expenses and payroll are not automatically free

This is an area where reading the tariff matters.

Revolut’s current UK fee schedule lists its Expenses app at £8 per active team member per month. Payroll is £3 per active team member per month.

That can be perfectly reasonable if the tools save admin time, but do not assume every attractive feature shown on the Business website is included in the £10 Basic subscription.

If bookkeeping and payroll are major priorities, compare our accounting software guide before deciding how much functionality you really want from the bank itself.

Accounting integrations

Revolut Business integrates with popular accounting and business tools, which is useful for companies trying to reduce manual reconciliation.

For a small finance team, the real benefit is not “integration” as a marketing bullet point. It is fewer CSV exports, fewer duplicated entries and less time trying to work out why the accountant’s balance is £217.43 different from the bank.

Can Revolut Business accept customer card payments?

Yes. Revolut Business is no longer only about sending and receiving bank transfers.

Current UK payment-acceptance pricing starts at:

Payment type UK consumer Visa/Mastercard Other key pricing
In-person 0.8% + 2p 1.7% + 2p UK consumer Amex; 2.6% + 2p other cards
Tap to Pay on iPhone 0.8% + 10p Includes the additional 8p Tap to Pay fee
Online card payments 1% + 20p 1.7% + 20p UK consumer Amex; 2.8% + 20p other cards
Revolut Terminal £169 + VAT hardware
Lite Terminal £129 + VAT hardware

That makes Revolut more interesting for a retailer or service business that also wants to consolidate banking and payment acceptance.

Revolut Business savings

Business Savings is currently available on Grow, Scale and Enterprise rather than Basic.

The savings product is provided through partner banks, and eligible deposits can receive separate FSCS protection up to £120,000 with the relevant partner bank, subject to eligibility and the normal per-bank limit.

If building a cash reserve is important, compare the live Revolut rate with our best business savings accounts. Convenience is useful, but a savings rate still needs to be competitive.

How secure is Revolut Business?

Revolut Bank UK Ltd is now a regulated UK bank, and eligible Business current-account deposits can receive FSCS protection up to £120,000.

The app also includes security controls such as two-factor authentication, card freezing, merchant controls and device management.

The more useful small-business point is operational: give team members their own permissions. Do not share one owner’s login across a growing company simply because it feels quicker.

Revolut Business pros and cons

Pros

  • Strong multi-currency setup.
  • 25+ supported currencies.
  • Useful FX allowances on Grow and Scale.
  • Good team-card and spending controls.
  • UK bank status with eligible FSCS protection up to £120,000.
  • Integrated online and in-person payment acceptance.
  • Strong app, web and API access.

Cons

  • No free UK Revolut Business plan.
  • Not currently available to UK sole traders through Revolut Business.
  • 0.6% fee applies once FX allowance is exceeded.
  • 1% fee outside standard FX market hours.
  • ATM withdrawals cost 2%.
  • Expenses and Payroll can add per-user monthly charges.
  • International transfers can become expensive beyond plan allowances.

Revolut Business vs Tide

Tide is generally the easier starting point for a UK sole trader or very small domestic business because the Free plan has no monthly fee and Tide accepts sole traders.

Revolut is stronger when currency exchange, overseas suppliers or international customer payments are a normal part of the working week.

If your business is a local electrician invoicing customers in pounds, Tide may be simpler. If it is a marketing agency billing in USD and paying contractors in EUR, Revolut starts to make much more sense.

Revolut Business vs Starling

Starling Business remains a strong alternative for a UK-focused company that wants a conventional business current account without Revolut’s international emphasis.

The main comparison is cost versus international functionality. If most transactions are GBP and domestic, do not pay for currency tools simply because they look impressive.

Revolut Business vs Monzo

Monzo Business is another strong app-first alternative, particularly for smaller UK businesses wanting straightforward day-to-day banking.

Revolut’s edge is multi-currency and international operations. Monzo’s appeal is a simpler domestic banking proposition.

Revolut Business vs Wise

Wise is still one of the most natural comparisons because both brands are strongly associated with international money movement.

But they solve slightly different problems. Revolut Business is now a UK business bank account with cards, team controls, payments and banking tools. Wise Business is primarily built around moving and receiving money internationally rather than replacing every aspect of a UK current account.

Which plan should a small business choose?

Basic: choose it if you mainly want a Revolut Business account for occasional international use and expect to stay within the £1,000 monthly FX allowance.

Grow: this is where Revolut becomes much more compelling for a genuinely international small business. The £15,000 FX allowance and five included international payments can quickly justify the £35 monthly fee.

Scale: only makes sense when the business is moving serious money across borders. A £125 monthly subscription should be solving a large enough problem to be obvious on your bank statements.

Enterprise: for businesses large enough that negotiating the package matters more than reading a public comparison page.

Our simple plan test

Look at the last three months. Add up how much currency you exchanged and how many international payments you sent. If the higher plan saves more in FX and transfer fees than the extra subscription costs, upgrade. If not, keep the cheaper plan.

What should a small business check before opening Revolut?

  1. Legal structure: make sure Revolut Business accepts your company type.
  2. Monthly FX: how much currency do you genuinely exchange?
  3. International transfers: how many do you send each month?
  4. Domestic transfers: will the plan allowance cover normal supplier payments?
  5. Cash: if the business handles notes and coins regularly, Revolut may not be the best operational fit.
  6. Team: which staff really need cards, expenses or payroll access?
  7. Payments: would consolidating card acceptance with Revolut save admin?
  8. Accounting: will the integrations work with your current software?
  9. Savings: do you want idle cash earning interest?

Our verdict

Revolut Business is one of the most interesting UK business accounts for incorporated companies that genuinely operate internationally.

The Basic plan is reasonably priced at £10 a month, but the £1,000 FX allowance is small. For many internationally active SMEs, Grow is the more important plan because £15,000 of monthly FX allowance and five included international transfers can outweigh the higher subscription quickly.

For a purely domestic UK business, we would compare Tide, Starling and Monzo first. Revolut’s cleverest features are wasted if every customer and supplier deals in pounds.

For an agency, ecommerce company, software business or importer regularly juggling currencies, the opposite is true. Revolut can simplify banking, currency exchange, staff spending and payment acceptance in one place.
